Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.2.5 Update
The Microsoft Office 2008 12.2.5 Update addresses 14 security vulnerabilities, the most serious of which pertain to maliciously crafted Excel files that could enable attackers to run arbitrary code and gain elevated system rights; accounts with administrative rights are at a greater risk than accounts with fewer privileges. The update addresses these issues by changing the way certain Excel files are parsed and by correcting certain installation problems with the Open XML File Format Converter for Mac. Additionally, the update fixes an issue with the custom dictionary that caused it to include words from
other languages.
The update is rated Important for Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac and requires that you’ve previously installed the Microsoft Office 2008 for Mac 12.2.4 Update. The update is available from Microsoft’s Web site and via the Office 2008 version of Microsoft AutoUpdate. (Free, 332.8 MB)
Easy install on iBook with Leopard 10.5.8, but will not install on iMac or Mini Mac with Snow leopard 10.6.3. Just get installation failed page after multiple efforts.
Hmm, that's odd. I had no problem on my Mac Pro running 10.6.3. But there have been issues in the past with installations if anything is weird with the base install (not all apps installed, things moved from the default locations, etc).
Realistically, if you're not using Excel with documents sent to you by others, it's probably not a big deal for now, though if you skip this update, you probably won't be able to install the next one either.
I am installing the update now. It has been predicting "Install time remaining: About a minute" for around an hour now (edit--make that three hours). However, OSX doesn't seem to think the installer is hung, since a status check via right clicking (ok, two finger tapping) does not report that the application is not responding. just a fyi
I can't install Microsoft Office 12.2.5 on my new iMac either. Have tried twice. Progress bar gets hung up on time remaining: 20 minutes. (Snow Leopard 10.6.3)
Any answers?
I installed the update and now the autosave on Word thinks my HD is full, with 70 GB free. I tried shutting off, then restarting autosave but that didn't help.
This sort of problem is long-standing with Word - try quitting and relaunching Word, or restarting your Mac. I'm not sure if it has ever been tracked down for sure.
Have both a Mac Book Pro & a Mac Pro, running leapord 10.6.3. Purchased Office 2008 about a year ago. Installed on both computers. All updates have been done since purchase. No problems ever, until now. Cannot update from 12.2.4 to 12.2.5. Continually hangs up, with error message. Have carried out suggested fixes, but can't get update to complete. Ideas/suggestions?
