Word 98 Special Edition for $99
Recognizing that many new computer users today are primarily concerned with managing email, accessing the Web, and using a word processor, Microsoft has announced plans for a limited-time Microsoft Word 98 Special Edition, targeted specifically at owners of iMacs and Apple's forthcoming iBook portable computers. The new product bundle will feature Microsoft Word 98, Outlook Express 4.5, and Internet Explorer 4.5 for $129, but will ship with a $30 rebate coupon, bringing the final price down to $99 - Word 98 normally carries a full retail price near $350. (See "Word to the Wise - Word 98, That Is" in TidBITS 425 for a review of Microsoft Word 98.) The Word 98 Special Edition will feature the same drag-install technology as Office 98, and also ship with 5,000 clip art images and 100 new professionally designed template files to assist first-time users in creating common documents like newsletters, greeting cards, labels, and calendars. Microsoft Word 98 Special Edition is scheduled to be available from 26-Aug-99 through 31-Jan-00.
