Canvas 7.0.1 Fixes Bugs, Improves HTML Export
Canvas 7.0.1 Fixes Bugs, Improves HTML Export -- Deneba Software has released Canvas 7.0.1, a free update to the company's Swiss Army knife graphics program (see Matt Neuburg's "Canvas 7 - Not Quite Heaven" in TidBITS-517 for a full review). Along with a variety of bug fixes, improvements in Canvas 7.0.1 include an automatic update feature that checks for new releases (supposedly on every launch), simplified access to Canvas's painting tools, an option for using an Internet Explorer 5.0-like 96 pixel per inch (ppi) resolution for better compatibility with Windows applications, and the capability to select objects behind the transparent area of another object. Perhaps most significant, though, is Canvas 7.0.1's optional use of tables when exporting HTML; we had pointed out that Canvas 7.0's reliance on CSS level 2 absolute positioning was problematic, since CSS2 is not widely implemented among Web browsers. Canvas 7.0.1 requires a PowerPC-based Mac with Mac OS 8.5 or later and 32 MB of RAM. Registered users can download the update or order it on CD-ROM for $15. [ACE]
