Track Changes Dates Reset on Save As in Word 2008
If you regularly use the Save As feature to create new drafts while working in Word 2008, you might notice that with Track Changes enabled, previously time-stamped comments and edits have their times reset to the Save As date and time. Work around this by sticking with your original file, but using Save As (or just File > Duplicate in the Finder) to make backup copies.

Default Folder 3.0.6 Available
St. Clair Software has released Default Folder 3.0.6, their shareware system extension which enhances the functionality of the Mac OS's Open and Save dialog boxes. (See "Tools We Use: Default Folder" in TidBITS 475 for a review.) Version 3.0.6 adds a new pop-up menu in the Finder for quick access to recently used and favorite folders, but more importantly squashes a selection of bugs, including memory leaks in Navigation Services dialogs and corruption of Default Folder's preferences file (which could lead to instability and crashes). Default Folder 3.0.6 is a 640K download, and is free to registered users of version 3.x or folks who registered version 2.x after 31-Jan-98. Otherwise, upgrades are $15 and new licenses are $25; French, German, and Japanese versions are also available.
