Spin Through Toolbar View Options
Although many people never change their toolbars from the default settings, all standard toolbars on the Mac offer six states: icon only, text only, and icon and text, with all three coming in normal and small size. You can change them by choosing View > Customize Toolbar.
But there's a shortcut that makes it easier to check out each variant. Simply Command-click the toolbar lozenge at the upper right of a window, and the toolbar switches to the next view. Click it enough times, and you cycle back to the start.

| iPhoto 1.1.1 Extends Photo Management
After what appeared to be a mistaken release last week of iPhoto 1.1, Apple today officially released iPhoto 1.1.1, a welcome update to the company's free photo management software for Mac OS X (see "iPhoto Joins the iFold" in TidBITS 611). Version 1.1.1 adds a number of requested features, including brightness and contrast adjustment controls, integration with Apple Mail, the capability to set your Desktop image and screen saver slide show from within iPhoto, searching within captions and comments, importing of folders as separate film rolls, retention and display of EXIF data from your camera, preservation of imported file names as photo titles, creation of new albums by dragging folders directly into the Album list, preservation of music and transitions while creating QuickTime slide shows, and better print templates for more efficient use of paper. Other welcome changes include the capability to rearrange albums, edit the dates of photos, rename film rolls, export photos with their titles as filenames, and alias your iPhoto Library folder to a new location. Upgrading does require that you update your Photo Library to a new format that is not backwardly compatible with 1.0, so be sure to make a backup of your iPhoto Library folder first. iPhoto 1.1.1 is a 25.2 MB download.
